Jobs

Unemployment is out of control.  Businesses and working class families all across Montana are hurting.  Too many in Washington, D.C. believe that increases in spending, taxes and regulations are the cornerstones to bringing us out of this recession.  But we all have seen the gravity of their mistake.

Washington has forgotten that the real measurement of America is its people, not the size and scope of its government.  We need to invest in the people, not government bureaucracies.

If we truly want to create good jobs for the American people we need to get the government off the backs of entrepreneurs and our free enterprise system.  I’ve worked hard in my time as your Congressman to decrease burdensome regulations, lower taxes and help businesses of all sizes keep more of their revenues to invest in new jobs, better wages and increased production.  Small business is the backbone of Montana’s economy and the only way they can prosper is if we allow for ingenuity to flourish, not be punished.

Everyone knows Montana has some of richest energy resources in the country.  We need to nurture these businesses and allow for more materials to be developed locally, in a clean and safe manner.  We have the technology to produce more with less here in Montana.  By eliminating government red tape we can expand existing markets by using more of what we have and expanding existing industries.

Bio fuels are a perfect example of expanding local markets and creating new jobs.  By helping America turn to domestic alternatives to our energy crisis, we can help stir new job growth and industries.

Agriculture is another area in which Montana holds real opportunities to grow and create jobs.  We need to diversify and foster value-added agriculture businesses so we can process our raw commodities right here in Montana instead of shipping them out of state.

The best thing Washington can do to help create jobs and jump-start our economy is to get out of the way.  Government doesn’t create jobs, people and small businesses do – and by reducing taxes and burdensome regulations on our small businesses Montana and America will prosper.
