Denny Rehberg, is a fifth generation Montana cattle rancher and small business owner who is serving his sixth term as Montana’s Congressman. Having spent a majority of his life working on the family ranch, Denny has firsthand experience with many of the problems facing agriculture producers and small business owners in Montana.
After attending Billings West High school, Montana State University and Washington State University, he went to work in the Montana State Legislature as an intern, and later worked as a legislative assistant for Montana Congressman Ron Marlenee.
In 1984, Denny was elected to the Montana House of Representatives. During his time in the legislature, Denny helped balance the state’s budget without raising taxes. Taking note of Denny’s fiscal conservatism, Governor Stan Stephens appointed him Lieutenant Governor. Then in 1992, Denny joined forces with Attorney General Marc Racicot in their successful bid for Governor and Lieutenant Governor.
In 2000, Denny was elected to the United States House of Representatives. One of the first measures Denny sponsored was a Balanced Budget Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Denny has long fought for spending reform in Washington and supports banning earmarks. Denny serves on the powerful House Appropriations Committee, and was recently appointed Chairmen of the Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and Related Agencies, which oversees over one quarter of federal discretionary spending.
As our representative, Denny has not forgotten his pledge to visit all 56 counties in Montana. Last session, Denny hosted over 75 public listening sessions, doing at least one in all 56 counties. Denny believes that the best way to govern is to have a relationship with the very people that elected him.
Denny has been happily married to his high school sweetheart, Jan, for over 30 years. They have three children, A.J., Katie and Elsie
